İGA and Mind Your Waste Foundation Collaborate to Raise Environmental Awareness

İGA and the Mind Your Waste Foundation are organizing a national photography and short film competition called “Are You Aware?”, which aims to raise awareness of waste management and recycling.

Working to leave a clean and livable world for future generations in line with the sustainable development principles, İGA is organizing a national photography and short film competition called “Are You Aware?” in cooperation with the Mind Your Waste Foundation.

Applications for the competition, which is grouped under the photography and short film categories, commenced on December 23, 2019. Amateurs and professionals alike can enter this competition, which is also supported by Büyük Efes Art, until February 29, 2020.

The aim is to raise environmental awareness

“Are You Aware?” aims to draw attention to the facts that our seemingly limitless resources are fast running out, the rubbish strewn around does not decompose, and that we can turn the tables.

Applications are submitted online at www.farkindamisinyarimasi.org and the artists behind the top three works in both categories will receive a monetary award. In both categories, the 20 highest-rated works will be displayed at Istanbul Airport.

The jury for the competition, the results of which will be announced in March 2020, comprises Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Birpınar, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Urbanism; Prof. Dr. Zuhal Baltaş, Professor of Psychology; Gültekin Çizgen, Photographer; Güven İslamoğlu, Producer at CNN Türk; Ülkü Özeren, Advisor to the CEO at İGA; Gökhan Şengül, Corporate Communications Director at İGA; and Yasemin Vargı, Trustee at the Mind Your Waste Foundation.

The waste crisis begins with consumption

Emrah Bilge, the General Manager of the Mind Your Waste Foundation, which works to create public awareness on waste minimization and recycling, said, “Garbage is actually everything we use until we decide that it is garbage. When we decide that an object is useless or that we don’t want to use it anymore, we bin it. We just throw it away so that we don’t see it. But do we ever think about what happens to garbage, or think about its effects on our health and nature? Are You Aware? aims to make people consider the answers and demonstrates what we can do as individuals.” He also invited everyone to raise environmental awareness by participating in the competition with works they have produced through their thoughts and creativity.

Target: Zero Waste

Continuing its work in line with the principles of sustainable development, İGA also stands out with its activities in the fields of environmentalism and sustainability at Istanbul Airport, which has turned into a global aviation hub with its successful operations. IGO CEO Advisor Ülkü Özeren mentioned the successfully carried out work at Istanbul Airport in her statement and emphasized the need to reduce waste at its source. Özeren emphasized that the national photography and short film competition “Are You Aware?” would raise public awareness to environmental issues and indicated that new methods needed to be found to reduce waste and use resources efficiently.

“At Istanbul Airport, which is a global aviation hub with an understanding of sustainability, we respect the world we live in and carry out our projects in line with the Zero Waste principles. In our effort to produce Zero Waste, we and our stakeholders have signed the Zero Waste Declaration initiated by Istanbul Airport. To reach our goal, we endeavored to design all waste management infrastructure in a way that collects and recycles wastes. We wish to leave a clean and livable world for future generations.”
