A model airplane designed by high school students during the second “İstanbul Inter High School Model Airplane Competition” was the first plane that landed at İstanbul New Airport. İGA Airports held the competition in collaboration with the Istanbul Provincial Directorate for National Education and İstanbul Technical University (İTU).
172 students from 40 schools registered for the model airplane competition, which accepted applications from all high schools in Istanbul. 20 students qualified for the finals. They took applied courses that culminated in the demonstration of model airplanes. Team Karavul successfully completed the flight tasks required by the competition to win the first prize, a technology store gift certificate of TL 6,000.
“Seeing the planes designed by the brilliant young people, only in high school, gives us hope for the future. Taking classes from professors of İTU, a university noted for competence in aeronautics, as part of this competition, is a pivotal experience for the high school students”, said Yusuf Akçayoğlu, CEO of İGA Airports Construction and member of the Jury. “At İGA, one of our biggest sources of satisfaction in this competition was to lift young people’s appetite for aeronautics. We should make a name for ourselves not only with our airport but also with the aeronautical industry in general, young people’s achievements and the technologies they develop.”
