The Romans used it in their day, and today concrete is the most widely used man-made material. At Istanbul New Airport, two million cubic meters of concrete will be cast for the terminal building, runways, and Airport City. That is more than eight times the amount used for the recently opened Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge. Around 230,000 cubic meters of concrete was needed to build the bridge, which stretches 1,408 meters over the Bosporus and has eight highway lanes and two railway lanes.
