A hub for passengers and cargo

With its perfect location between East and West İstanbul New Airport will benefit from the growth in the airport sector. “Within three hours distance we reach 120 destinations in 60 countries” said Kadri Samsunlu, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of İGA Airport Operation, in an interview with BBC journalist Aaron Heslehurst from Talking Business. Smaller aircraft will gather the passengers and long hall aircrafts will transport them from İstanbul to wherever they want to go.

“Our airport is going to be a hub for passengers and for cargo”, said Samsunlu, who sees “a lot of growth potential” in the cargo sector. Today the East manufactures while the West consumes what the East has manufactured – and İstanbul is perfectly located in the middle.

“İstanbul itself is a very vibrant city and interesting destination. That’s why we expect more stop-over passengers once the airport is open”, Samsunlu stressed. In its first phase İstanbul New Airport will have a capacity of 90 million passengers. Turkish Airlines, which is based at the airport, will fly to more destinations. Strong demand is also coming from inside Turkey, it has increased 12th times in the last 15 years.
