Istanbul Airport City

AIRPORT CITY ISTANBUL CREATES THE SYMBOL OF MODERN TURKEY: A NETWORK OF MIXED-USE URBAN DISTRICTS THAT ENABLE INTERNATIONAL COMMERCE TO THRIVE AND ESTABLISH A NEW CULTURAL BEACON

The vision for Airport City Istanbul will be a singularly unique environment, breaking the mold on what it means to experience airports. The city will act as a:
  • A global gateway from Istanbul to the world.
  • A national hub of connectivity.
  • A regional landmark economic center.
  • A series of mixed-use districts that will grow organically with their own unique character and culture.

ISTANBUL AIRPORT CITY

“Istanbul Airport City”, developed within the project area of the Istanbul Airport, is a globally-unique urban development project. The planning and design of the project was executed in such a way that provides all necessary supporting functions for the Airport. It will facilitate the dynamic potential of the Istanbul Airport. The masterplan for the new city was prepared by Perkins+Will, an international design company. The Airport City concept is unique, and it is only considered as a development platform at major, global airports and as such, it has a limited number of rivals. The Airport City model, which will be the first in Turkey, is expected to, and targeted to, set the benchmark for the future Airport City projects in Turkey and globally.

“Istanbul Airport City” is located at a major global intersection point for travel and commerce, in parallel with the Istanbul Airport and much like the City Istanbul itself. As a gateway to the world and a welcoming point into Turkey for international guests, Istanbul Airport City is expected to fulfill its potential to become an economic and cultural center. The project is planned to provide express transit in a comfortable environment that will reach the city center of Istanbul via the new Subway and High Speed Rail systems.

Within the boundaries of Istanbul Airport, Istanbul Airport City will be developed as four main zones. The Terminal 1 Core Zone, which has a direct connection to the main terminal, is only a short walk from airport to a major mixed-use urban development. The development will include an innovation district, an aviation academy and university, hotels, retail, serviced apartments, office space and a world class hospital facility. In addition, the core zone will be supported by a cultural and conference center which includes a museum, exhibition spaces and conference halls. Istanbul Airport City will make a positive contribution to the airport environment from the outset, with sustainable building practices and positive environmental management. It will serve not only the passengers of the airport but also to the city itself.

With its strategic location, the project will also include a logistics zone. Having direct accessibility to the North Marmara Highway, the Seaport and the Airport through a system of inner roads, the logistics center will contribute to the development of the logistics sector and the growth of the national economy.

The Airport City will be developed in phases which are planned to be responsive to the national and international dynamics of the “Istanbul Airport”; the “Global Aviation Hub”.
