The domestic and national technologies of the İstanbul New Airport to set an example for the world

Established by İGA Airport Operation, İGA Systems will provide the entire technology infrastructure and IT services of the İstanbul New Airport, rendering the widest service globally in its field. With a team of 780 people, İGA Systems will be responsible for the 5 main systems of the airport, namely infrastructure, security, aviation, business operations, and software development, using national systems developed by domestic engineers.

İGA Airport Operation Inc. established İGA Systems Company to provide infrastructure and software services to support the system of the İstanbul New Airport, which will be the world’s biggest airport constructed from scratch when complete.

İGA Systems will be in charge of the entire technology infrastructure and services of the İstanbul New Airport, which will serve as a technology base and, as such, be one of the smartest airports in the world.

Established with 100% domestic and national resources, İGA Systems will undertake the design, installation, integration, and implementation operations of the world’s biggest airport at the Istanbul New Airport.

780 People strong high tech team

With a team of 780 people including over 100 employees and subcontractors, İGA Systems will be responsible for the five main systems of the İstanbul New Airport, such as infrastructure, security, aviation, business operations, and software development.

Domestic technological resources

The İstanbul New Airport, which will host a range of firsts in technology, will tap into national and domestic resources for it entire infrastructure installation and supply. Developed by the domestic engineers of İGA Systems some of the novelties to be used for the first time to increase the quality of time spent by passengers are fast track systems, free internet, dynamic notifications for waiting periods, smart parking systems, new generation loyalty management systems, lost and found software, and apron card application portal.

İGA Systems to become an aviation technology incubator

Mr. H. Kadri Samsunlu, the Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of İGA Airport Operation, said that the İstanbul New Airport will be an incubation center for aviation technologies and continued: “We are proud to establish İGA Systems with domestic and national resources. İstanbul New Airport, which will serve as a technology base and be one of the smartest airports in the world, will also become a major incubation center for the aviation industry. Our goal is to bring together everyone with an idea here on the İGA Systems platform. The company will be in charge of the infrastructure of the İstanbul New Airport and bring a big momentum to Turkey in terms of technology development. Our ultimate aim is to transfer the technological experience created at the İstanbul New Airport to other airports to be built in the country and the region thanks to Turkey’s growth thrust, to nationalize technology and boost technology exports. In addition to that, we want to build and operate smart building systems in Turkey and across the region.”

Stating that the developments in the aviation industry push for change and transformation in line with the increasing number of passengers and aircraft, Mr. Kadri Samsunlu added, “According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) 20 year passenger forecast report, in 2017 4 billion people travelled in the world and the number is expected to double in 2036 reaching 7.8 billion. This projection goes to show that airports must be bigger, more modern structures, able to offer the latest technology services.”

Mr. Ersin İnankul, General Manager of İGA Systems said that İGA Systems was undertaking the design, installation, integration, and implementation operations of the world’s biggest airport at the İstanbul New Airport, and emphasized that İGA Systems would become the world’s biggest company to offer airport services of this scale. Mr. İnankul added, “We have developed a whole range of software for the İstanbul New Airport from mobile applications to boost passenger satisfaction and airport security systems, to an airline messaging platform and a joint decision-making system. We are also working on current technological systems such as the first airport data center in the world, the first virtual tower application in Turkey, domestic robots and unmanned passenger transfer vehicles. The domestic and national technologies we develop here are poised to set an example for all airports in the world.”

Technology infrastructure of the İstanbul New Airport in numbers

İstanbul New Airport will be home to 3 data centers, 102 integrated systems, 467 servers, 780 telecommunication rooms, 3,257 card pass points, 3,267 flight information display systems, 4,549 computers supported, and 9,000 security cameras. The airport will have a 20 million GB data space, and feature 80 thousand network ports, which is approximately the same number as in an average-sized city. The 1,700 km-long fiber optic wiring at the airport equals the distance between Istanbul and Berlin, while the 4,500 km-long copper wiring equals the distance between Istanbul and New Delhi.
