The Project Raising Young People’s Dreams Towards The Sky Receives Award from London

The second annual “Istanbul Inter-High School Model Airplane Training and Competition” organized by İGA this year was given Silver medal in Community Commitment category at The International CSR Excellence Awards that recognizes social responsibility projects of sensitive corporations.

When complete, İstanbul New Airport is set to employ 225 thousand people both directly and indirectly. The Airport continues to receive national and international awards with corporate social responsibility and investment programs, while positioning Turkey as an aviation hub.

This year, İGA organized the second annual “Istanbul Inter-High School Model Airplane Competition” in partnership with Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education and Istanbul Technical University (ITU). The International CSR Excellence Awards, assessing social responsibility projects worldwide with an independent jury, awarded the competition Silver medal in Community Commitment category.

In a recent statement, Yusuf Akçayoğlu, CEO of İGA Airports Construction expressed his great joy over the award. Akçayoğlu said: “Our goal with this project was to grow our youth’s interest in aviation and thereby contribute to the development of a qualified workforce in this field. We take pride in the prospect of flying in the near future with airplanes to be engineered by our youth, and equipping our airport with technological equipment to be designed by them. We hope that the Model Airplane Competition project, which earned us this prize, will set a model for other corporations, and we accept this award on behalf of İGA Family and the young people who joined our program. İstanbul New Airport has received numerous awards around the globe as early as in the construction phase in areas of design, architecture, corporate social responsibility and technology. These awards prove that we are on the right track and boost our motivation.”

With the said award, İGA proved for the second time its commitment to corporate social responsibility and social investment projects. As of January 2016, the company launched a Social Investment Program, carrying out activities to help develop areas in the vicinity of the airport. As part of the program, İGA conducts many activities with educational institutions and students. In 2016, in partnership with Arnavutköy Tolga Eti Primary School and Durusu Roma Association, İGA introduced art to Roma children, a project that received International Corporate Social Responsibility Award by the Association of Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs. So far, İGA carried out nearly 150 projects in nearby districts and neighborhoods, including renovations of schools and family health centers, covering basic needs of disadvantaged students, partnerships in educational programs for students, building interactive libraries, and encouraging local employment and vocational education.
